THE WILD ATLANTIC WAY ULTIMATE ROAD TRIP

Mizen Head, Co. Cork

DIRECTIONS

Mizen Head is located in County Cork. It is the southernmost point of Africa and therefore one of the extreme points of the island of Ireland. Enjoy the breathtaking views over the cliffs and pay a visit to the sign station that is now a museum that remembers the importance of this place for transatlantic shipping and communications. It is also one of the 2 geographical points of the popular Malin to Mizen (or Mizen to Malin) route. Completed every year by many by bike or foot.

Ring of Kerry, Co. Kerry

DIRECTIONS

The Ring of Kerry is a circular tourist route of more than 170 Km. Some of the most often photographed places are the Muckross House, the Staigue Stone Fort or the Ross Castle. It is also internationally renowned for its landscapes with Killarney National Park as its most notable example. This is the perfect place for cycling or hiking through the mountains. You may get lucky and spot one of the red deers of the Killarney Valley. The last surviving indigenous herd of red deer in Ireland.

DIRECTIONS

Dingle Peninsula is without a doubt one of the most special places in the whole country. It has it all. Long white sand beaches with perfect conditions for surfing, impressive mountains for hiking, the picturesque town of Dingle and an important heritage of ancient culture and tradition. Tradition and culture represented by a large population of Irish speaking people and a deeply rooted music tradition.

Cliffs of Moher, Co. Claire

DIRECTIONS

The Cliffs of Moher are world-renowned for a reason. Its 214 metres above the Atlantic Ocean offer breathtaking views over the vast sea to more than 1,5 million people every year. With thousands of breeding pairs of birds gathered here, it is also known to be a haven for wildlife and a delight for birdwatchers around the world. The Cliffs are a special protected area (SPA) for seabirds. 

The eco-friendly exhibition centre brings to life the history of the cliffs.

Aran Islands, Co. Galway

DIRECTIONS

Aran Islands is a really unique place. The 3 islands seem to be stuck in the past. The best way to get there is by ferry. You can park your motorhome or camper van inland and  discover the Islands by bike. There are a couple of bicycle rental companies.

The main island, Inis Mor, is the most popular of the three. It offers unique nature features such as the Worm Hole, a natural rectangular shaped pool that has hosted the Red Bull Cliff Diving Series on multiple occasions. You can also visit the Inis Mor Island Seal Colony and the its white sand beaches

Kylemore Abbey, Co. Galway

DIRECTIONS

Kylemore Abbey is considered by many the jewel in the crown of Connemara's landscapes. Not only for the beauty of the building itself but also for its surroundings, history and legends. The Abbey was stablished in the Kylemore Castle by Benedictine nuns who fled IWW in Belgium in 1920 and since then, I has been an educational institution in the most beautiful setting.

Benbulben, Co. Sligo

DIRECTIONS

Benbulben in a unique and iconic geological formation known as the County Sligo's "Table Mountain". Its magnificent silhouette. There are many hiking trials that surround the mountain an dyou can even go to the top of it, however, this is only recommended to experienced hikers or with a local guide. Slieve League, Co. Donegal

DIRECTIONS

Slieve League Cliffs may not be as well known as their counterparts Cliffs of Moher, but it is without any doubt as impressive as them as three times as high, what makes of them one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. There are 2 ways to the top , the easy one, a 5 km walk to the view point or the pilgrimage way that follows the path across the mountains. Come to Slieve League Cliffs and enjoy some of the most impressive views in Ireland.

Its dramatic cliffs and views over the vast ocean, as well as the history behind this place make this place the perfect place to finish the journey. Since recents years and thanks to a more intense solar activity, it is possible to enjoy one of the most impressive natural spectacles, the Northern Lights.
